Inside the author's head| Rambling about myself

I’m still fairly new to all of this.
The marketing.
Social media.
Following through on my creative outlet instead of letting it fall between the cracks.
So I thought the best way for my readers to get to know me…
If you want to know me, that is.
Is by doing a post.
Let’s start with my name.
K.M. Batur.
It is an homage to my favorite author (if you follow my socials, you know exactly who that is.)
Sherrilyn McQueen (formerly Kenyon).
The full name is Katra Malphas Batur.
They’re three different characters from her books, and each one I found a piece of myself in.
Even though I fall in love with every character I read in Sherrilyn’s worlds.
Which brings me to…
Why I decided to publish.
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember.
It’s always been a good outlet for me.
I started with creative writing in school.
Poetry.
Blogging on Tumblr.
I wrote my first book when I was a Junior in High School.
It began as a way to cope with a breakup, and the world was built from there.
It was the first time I let friends read anything I had written.
I was always too self-conscious about my writing.
I received a lot of good feedback and tried to publish, but didn’t know enough about…
Well, anything to feel comfortable publishing and advertising.
It’s still a story I want to tell, a series that I think should be told.
With Iris Rose, it started as a way of processing some emotions I was working through.
Trying to figure out who I was outside of other people, what I wanted, and where I saw myself in the future.
It was…
Terrifying to say the least.
But I have a great therapist.

I was reading a Sherrilyn book, and I was at a part that made me want to cry.
Which, to be fair, the Dark Hunter Series always does that to me.
But by the end of it, she gives you a happily ever after.
I remember holding the book close and thinking I want people to feel this way about my writing.
So, I started focusing a bit more on Iris Rose with the intent to publish.
I continued to use it as an outlet for my emotions, to process, but ultimately, Iris’s world is her own.
I want people who read about Iris and her struggles to reflect on who they are, what they feel, and if they’re doing things to make other people happy.
And if you don’t have to worry about that?
I hope it helps to recognize maybe someone else who does.

I wish Iris and her friends were the only ones living in my head.
It would make life easier to write if I could switch between the three main stories for them.
But alas, here we are…
In addition to the Tangled Essence Universe for Iris and Friends.
I’m working on a series that I’ve titled Delulu, Not Delusional.
My best friend's words from a conversation that we were having.
“I’m delulu, not delusional.”
Still lives rent-free in my head.
Anyway…
These books are still in progress, but I’m excited for their release.
They’ve been the most fun I’ve had in a while with writing.
Fanfiction notwithstanding.
Getting inside the heads of these characters has been a bit different.
Where Iris’s story is grounded in real life, DND lets me explore the darker side of romance. The larger-than-life men. Impossible situations.
Characters who would burn the world down for the people they love.
I’m most excited because the idea wasn’t created from a place of darkness, of trying to figure out racing thoughts and tangled emotions, but a place of love.
Joking around with my best friend and us deciding we wanted to come up with a story and write ourselves into the story.
It makes everything in the story feel real to me.
To call her and go, “This is what your character did,” and she tells me that’s exactly how she would handle it.
At the end of the day,
That’s why I write.
Whether it’s Iris’s journey or one of the characters from the new series…
I hope that somewhere in those pages, you can find something that stays with you long after you’ve closed the book.

I hope you enjoyed my rambling little insight, and it encourages you to do something you love.
With love, chaos, and a bit of delusion,
K.M. Batur
